About us
VIB is an internationally renowned research institute dedicated to high profile basic and translational research in life sciences. Since more than 10 years, over a 1000 scientists are vividly engaged in gathering innovative scientific knowledge on the functioning of the human body, plants and microorganisms, using advanced gene technology.
Our Symposium aims to provide novel insights to topics relevant to the present and future career of every PhD student, including frontiers of sciences, emerging technologies and career perspectives. The Scientific sessions of the Symposium take place from the 14th to the 15th of October and will cover four central subjects: (1) Inventive minds, (2) Life after Darwin, (3) Science and Society and (4) Future Careers. On October 13th we will also have a workshop day for 160 participants of the symposium which will give them the opportunity to vividly interact with each other and learn about "How to survive in the lab?", "How to think like Da Vinci?", "Manage yourself, your PhD and your life", and "How to bounce back from difficult phases?".
Ambitious as we are, we hope to top the success of our 1st VIB International PhD Student Symposium in 2008 that was attended by over 200 PhD students, and featured renowned speakers such as Marc Vidal and Daniel Dennett (see VIBes2008).
